I wanted to have a whistle that controls arrows for a ranged weapon with the trait inspiring. That would be 2 treasures correct? Also my brother may have questions about treasures I just think he realized he had to use them for gear.

If it's just a ranged weapon with Inspiring, it's only 1 treasure. You get the trait that chooses the damage type for free. If you want to add another trqit that isn't combat, that's another 1 treasure. If you want another trait that is combat, it's another 2.

Item traits are in the last post of the traits thread.

But if I get armor that's considered combat right?

Yes, the defensive trait is a combat trait. Though if you're buying it for a separate item, it only costs the 1 treasure. If you want it to somehow be Ranged and Defensive, that's a total of 3 treasure.

So, it's best to just get separate items for each thing.

If it doesn't have the Defensive trait (or any other traits) then it costs nothing. Though it won't actually protect you, either. Without an item trait,.things are mostly cosmetic. Something like chalk does work as chalk, but it's not particularly attractive or combat effective. Haha.

Yup, exactly. Thematically though, you may want to consider making your jacket have the Official trait. Or your weapon.

You don't have to, but it was just a suggestion since you named it a peacekeeper jacket.

You don't start out with anything magical (in this case, it would be something of advanced or alien tech instead of magic). You'll find such items here and there as we play. If there's anything specific you guys might be looking for, maybe pop a wishlist in your character sheet or the thread you posted your character at.

Also, if you guys are looking for special traits, there might be a way to work them out. Just let me know what you might be looking for, and I can tell you if it will work or not. Generally I'd like to stay with the book, though, save for the advanced tech items.

Sorry, I wasn't paying much attention, but Kensai does give you a magical item in a sense, so I guess I should ask what the abilities you had in mind was exactly, and we can go from there. It won't be amazingly powerful, but it can be decent.

Also, Allan, I don't believe that's the case. It seems to imply in the text that the costs is only per item, not per item trait owned. Which in fairness would make little sense from a real world perspective. For some reason having to pay more for armor because your sword is special? So the cost is only per item.

Oooooooooh. So getting a weapon then defensive on two separate items is 2 treasure but getting a single item that has defensive AND weapon trait costs 3. I get it now.

I was thinking of that talias blade option in the magic items section. I can possibly build up to add more characteristics to it..but I want to start with the "anybody wounded with this blade is teleported to a nearby place"

If you dont expect it to perform any actions with it then i dont think its an issue. The general idea is anything that adds flavor without any intrinsic bonuses should (usually) be fine since it wont effect gameplay but adds a fun dynamic or uniqueness to what you do.

Edit: if it did require a trait id say "ornamental" could prolly cover a hovering clock

Edit edit: all im picturing now is a 40k force sword

Oh. Well, the same thing applies. If you intend to to use it to let the wearer fly then youd need the fly character trait. Your collaboration would be it only works while youre wearing the cloak. Item traits arent meant to be magical/unique properties. Theyre just broad terms to cover mundane/average equipment. Instead of having crowbar and shovel on a tool list, thet jusy say tool and let you fill in what type it is. That said, a jet pack could be an average tool in this world, thats up to alex.

A teleportation sword is very interesting. Maybe it starts out randomly teleporting people a short distance away, and over time you learn to control it and the distance increases.

As far as the cloak goes, it would either have to be an advanced tech item, or you would need a trait like Fly to represent it.

Or rather, I guess, instead of random it is just a short distance, like 10 feet. It's up to you.

The short distance sounds legit. So I can make my cloak have a trait to fly similar to Ali babas headdress??

If you take the Fly trait as your own trait you can. You can't purchase the trait for an item using Treasure. You might find an item that does do that, though.

If you wanted your Kensai item to give you a measure of flight, that would be arranged, though it would be more limited than normal flight.
